The Paradox of Motherhood

Motherhood is a paradox. It's beautiful, yet hard. It's rewarding, yet challenging. It's a journey of self-discovery, sacrifice, and love. As we celebrate Mother's Day, let us reflect on the joys and struggles of motherhood and the wisdom we can gain from it.

Motherhood is a gift from God. In Psalm 127:3, we read, "Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward." Children bring us joy, laughter, and purpose. They teach us patience, kindness, and selflessness. They are a reflection of God's love for us.

Yet, motherhood is also hard. It's sleepless nights, endless laundry, and many teachable moments that seem to be in the most inconvenient of times. It's navigating tantrums, teenage rebellion (Lawd, help me I’m not even there yet!), and adult children who make choices we don't agree with. It's letting go, trusting God, and praying for wisdom.

The paradox of motherhood is that it's both beautiful and hard at the same time. It's a journey of growth, transformation, and grace.

The Wisdom of Motherhood

As we navigate the paradox of motherhood, we can gain wisdom from the Bible. In Proverbs 31:25, we read, "She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future." A mother's strength comes from her faith in God, her love for her children, and her determination to persevere. She can face the future with confidence, knowing that God is with her. We need to remember this on the tough days when failure seems to envelop us.

In 1 Corinthians 13:4-7, we read, "Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, and it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres." A mother's love is patient, kind, and sacrificial. It puts the needs of others before her own. It protects, trusts, hopes, and perseveres. Yes, perseverance is worth mentioning again.

As we celebrate Mother's Day, let us honor the women who have shaped our lives. Let us thank our mothers, grandmothers, aunts, mentors, and friends who have been spiritual mothers to us. Let us pray for those who are struggling with infertility, loss, or strained relationships with their children. Let us support organizations that help mothers and children in need.

As a mother of two children, I know firsthand the joys and struggles of motherhood. Girl, there have been a lot of struggles lately. It's a journey that has taught me patience, kindness, and selflessness. It's a journey that has challenged me to trust God and let go of control. It's a journey that has brought me closer to Him and my children.

When I became a mother in the most unconventional way, I thought I knew what to expect. But nothing could have prepared me for the reality of motherhood. It is harder than I thought it would be. It is messier, louder, and more exhausting. But it is also more beautiful, more rewarding, and more fulfilling.

As I journeyed through motherhood, I am learning to rely on God's strength and wisdom. I am learning to let go of my expectations and trust His plan. I am learning to love my children unconditionally, even when they are difficult to love. And I am learning to laugh without fear of the future, knowing that God is with me every step of the way.

Motherhood is a paradox. It's beautiful, yet hard. It's a journey of self-discovery, sacrifice, and love. As we celebrate Mother's Day, let us honor the women who have shaped our lives and pray for those who are struggling. Let us gain wisdom from the Bible and trust in God's plan. And let us journey through motherhood with grace, patience, and love.

Cheers to moms!
