Ready for the Harvest?

Do you feel that? Seriously, do you feel that crisp, cool breeze in the morning air? The wind is changing, the temperature is beginning to drop, and harvest time is about to begin. Luckily for me, I have the privilege of living in a region of Northern California that is bursting with agriculture. My hometown’s claim to fame is wine grapes, which are harvested yearly to provide the area’s 60+ wineries with the product necessary to uphold my town’s long-established reputation as a wine destination.

When autumn fully makes its yearly appearance, it will finally be time to reap the harvest of seeds sowed long ago, which will be transformed into something new, such as wine. As we enjoy the fruits of the harvest, it is important to pause and consider this one simple fact- there would be no harvest if hard work and preparation from the farmers and farm hands didn’t take place earlier in the year. Nor would there be any harvest if they did not consistently nurture their crops by watering them, pruning them, and warding off diseases and predators from them.

Sis, let us consider and apply this to our lives. The seeds of love, grace, joy, or healing (or whatever is unique to you) sowed long ago, matter, especially if you’ve been cultivating and tending to said seeds. This is how fruit, (having more love, more grace, living a joyful life, or even healing from past hurts) is produced, and only then can you reap a harvest. There are no shortcuts. You cannot make it go faster and there’s no Amazon prime option. (Insert dramatic sigh*).

I know, it would be easier to just give up because you think, ‘it is too late.’ I’m here to tell you, It’s not! The beauty of serving and co-laboring with God is He operates in this upside-down Kingdom. It's never too late; start now!

Sis, let’s ask ourselves four questions:

  1. What seeds have you planted?

  2. What seeds are you cultivating and tending to?

  3. What fruit have you produced?

  4. Lastly, how bountiful is your harvest?

Ugh, these are hard questions to consider AND answer. But we CAN do difficult things while being resilient to do the hard work necessary. I believe in you! If need be I’ll SIP with you to till the hard soil so you can start to plant new seeds. You got this!
