Gatherings with Grace

Picture this: a simple, yet profound scene where Jesus shares a meal with people from every walk of life. His approach to fellowship was rooted in love, acceptance, and understanding. As Thanksgiving approaches, let's draw inspiration from Jesus’ example and bring that spirit of inclusive fellowship to our own tables.

Throughout Jesus’ life, he gave several examples of how we should fellowship with each other. One example is how he included a part of society that was unwanted and marginalized. We read in Luke 5:29-32, that Jesus dined with tax collectors like Levi and many others who were often criticized in society. He didn’t just share a meal; he shared stories, lessons, and compassion.

Thanksgiving is more than a celebration of harvest; it’s a celebration of unity and gratitude. Like Jesus, we have the opportunity to sit and sip with family, friends, and perhaps even strangers, acknowledging our shared humanity and the blessings in our lives.

Another example we learn from Jesus is how he showed gratitude in the simplest gestures. Jesus' act of giving thanks for bread and fish in John 6:11, we are reminded of the power of gratitude. Many of us this Thanksgiving will emulate this gesture, expressing our gratitude for the food we share and the company we keep.

Let’s make our Thanksgiving gatherings a mirror of Jesus’ spirit.  Extend an invitation to someone new, perhaps someone from a different background or someone who might be spending the holiday alone. These gestures embody the love and openness that Jesus showed.

As we prepare for this Thanksgiving, let’s gently challenge ourselves to reach out, making our tables a welcoming place for all. It’s an opportunity to engage in meaningful conversations and create a warm and loving environment.

As you enjoy your Thanksgiving meal, surrounded by the joy of fellowship, remember the times Jesus sat and shared with a diverse group of people. Let those moments inspire and guide us in creating a Thanksgiving that truly reflects His love and inclusivity.

Here at SIP, I am so thankful you're here! From my family to yours I’m wishing you all a blessed and joyous Thanksgiving, filled with the spirit of Jesus’ love and fellowship.  May we exemplify a lifestyle of gratitude year-round. Cheers!
