A Privilege To Celebrate

I LOVE the month of August because there are so many things to celebrate in the Crawford household! First, there’s my birthday, and then two days later is my oldest’s birthday. Within the same week, it is also my thirteenth wedding anniversary to the love of my life. Talk about party time! These yearly milestones remind me of how privileged I am. I have the privilege of getting old, a blessing I do not take for granted because I’m very aware not everyone gets to grow older. I have the privilege of seeing my daughter’s progression into adolescence, honoring who she is as a little person while learning about who she is becoming. Then I have the privilege of celebrating the love between my husband and me. Did I mention I LOVE being married? It hasn’t always been easy, but I know I am privileged to have a dynamic partner who encourages me to be myself without being intimidated, reigning me in when I need it…I know it’s hard to imagine me needing that balance in my life (wink*).

Through all the celebrations in life and the reminders of the day-to-day privileges, I first and foremost celebrate and honor the privilege of knowing God. As August is underway, I invite you to not only celebrate the privilege of experiencing all the glorious things life has to offer but to celebrate the privilege of knowing God is the reason for your glorious life. A reason to celebrate and reflect on the privilege of God’s presence in your life.

Beautiful Sister, as we wrap up, I have some questions for you: What are you celebrating in your life? Have you accomplished a big goal in your life? Or are you just doing your best to show up daily? And, as you celebrate, are you appreciating the privileges that life has to offer through God’s love? I am here to tell you, sis-not only am I here to celebrate with you and for you, but so are your Sisters in Christ, and so is God. The hard work of everyday life can be tough, but when we stop to appreciate the privilege of even the rough moments, we learn to celebrate not only the bigger milestones but all the little blessings or “small stuff” God shows us on our path daily. What are these little blessings, “small stuff”, you may ask?

It could be you didn’t eat that second cookie you really wanted-cause for celebration, of course! It could be you allowed yourself to be vulnerable, and you didn’t die from it- cause for celebration and honoring that the closeness of God allowed you to feel safe to be vulnerable. It could be that you didn’t judge yourself too harshly but instead gave yourself some grace when you wore your white t-shirt inside out nobody noticed, right? Definitely cause for celebration, and honoring the privilege of knowing God, which helped you to see yourself as He sees you. Or my favorite- you decided to SIP on God’s goodness. What a privilege and cause for CELEBRATION!
