A Glimpse of Glory

Have you ever experienced such profound grief or uncertainty that you felt utterly lost, convinced that recovery was beyond your reach? Perhaps you've made mistakes so grave that moving forward seemed impossible. If you've encountered such moments, take comfort in the fact that you are not alone. I want to explore how Moses' remarkable encounter with the glory of God can inspire us to seek comfort from our grief and transformation in our own lives. It's one of my favorite moments in the Bible and worth exploring.

The saga starts in Exodus 33, following the Israelites' grievous sin of worshipping a golden calf, God informed Moses that He would not going with them on their journey to the Promised Land. Recognizing their desperate need for divine guidance, Moses fervently implored God to remain with them. With great audacity, Moses boldly requested to witness the splendor of God's glory. God granted Moses' request but stated His face could not be seen, as no man (or woman) can behold God and live.

What happens next is nothing short of amazing! God positioned Moses among the rocks and covered him with His hand as He passed by. When God removed His hand, Moses caught a fleeting glimpse of His back. This extraordinary encounter with God's glory left a huge impact on Moses. It exposed the weight of Gods glory and awe-inspiring revelation, yet it also brought comfort to his spirit.

God manifested Himself to Moses in an entirely new way, provided him with a promise: "My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest" (Exodus 33:14). Through this fresh revelation, Moses found comfort in his Heavenly Father and underwent a profound transformation, that was physically displayed as a beautiful glow. Talk about a glow up!

So, how can we actively seek comfort and transformation in our own lives? Consider the following ideas:

  1. Have the audacity to ask God to witness His glory. As Moses did, we too can ask God to unveil Himself to us in unprecedented ways. We can experience the majesty of His glory, finding comfort in His abiding presence. Especially, if we are in a new season, why not ask to see God in a new way.

  2. Seek glimpses of God's glory in unexpected places. At times, the splendor of God's glory can manifest itself in the unlikeliest of circumstances—a kind word from a loved one, a comforting cup of coffee shared with a friend, or a fleeting moment of peace amidst life's chaos. Allow your eyes and heart to be open to see a new glimpse of His Glory.

  3. Place unwavering trust in God's promise to never leave us. Similar to Moses, we can place our unwavering trust in God's abiding presence, even when we cannot see it for ourselves. In His promise to never leave nor forsake us (Hebrews 13:5), we find comfort and rest, knowing that His presence is constantly with us.

Moses' extraordinary encounter with the glory of God serves as an amazing reminder that we are never alone, even in our darkest moments. It assures us that comfort and transformation await us in the presence of God when we sit in proximity to Him. His glory is accessible to those who earnestly seek it. Let us remain earnest, keeping our eyes open and our hearts open to new glimpses of God's glory, allowing it to comfort and transform us in ways we never knew possible.
